Fractured teeth can usually be restored so there is no need to panic.
If the tooth is painful, avoid hot or cold food or drinks, and avoid eating or biting on the side of the mouth that is most painful. In other words, try to do everything you can to relieve the tooth from extremes of temperature and pressure.
Painkillers such as Ibuprofen or Paracetamol are recommended. Pain-free treatment is usually available by getting in touch as soon as you can.
In the instance your crown comes loose or falls out, contact us immediately.
In the meantime, keep your crown safe, if you still have it, so it can be re-cemented as soon as possible to avoid damage or the need for root canal (endodontic) treatment.
- The tooth needs to be re-implanted into its socket immediately.
- Try not to handle the tooth root to protect the fibres around the root surface.
- If possible, place the tooth back into the socket and splint, in place with silver paper.
- DO NOT place the tooth in water.
- DO place the tooth in cold milk or on one side of your mouth between your teeth and cheeks.
If you find yourself in this situation, please contact our team immediately.
Broken dentures can usually be repaired relatively easily. Please resist the temptation to glue them together yourself as this often makes a repair very difficult.
Contact us to organise the repair as soon as possible.
You should try to see your dentist every six months.
This is the optimal time for your dentist to assess anything that has taken place in your mouth since your previous visit and also take the time to professionally clean signs of plaque build-up or debris build-up that you’ve been missing.
If you’re coming up to your six months or are overdue for your next appointment, contact us online or call our practice on (02) 6772 9386 to arrange your appointment.

This immediate medical attention should temporarily reduce the risk of infection or uncontrolled bleeding until you can see us during the week.
Our team strongly advises you still visit our practice for dental check-ups and cleans during your pregnancy.
Dental treatment during any trimester of pregnancy is safe however, it’s best to get your clean out of the way in the first or second trimester as some women find it difficult to lay back in the dental chair for extended periods of time during the third trimester.
It’s also a great time to get your dental cleaning done while you are pregnant as it may be a little harder to put your newborn baby to sleep or look after them while having your teeth cleaned.
To stop bleeding gums, apply ice to the affected area that is bleeding or causing pain and ensure you maintain good oral hygiene practises by brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing regularly. We also recommend using mouthwash after every brush to use as an extra layer of prevention and protection.
If bleeding persists or starts to occur every time you brush your teeth, make sure to mention this to one of our dentists at your next appointment.
While we all experience bleeding gums once in a while, whether it’s from brushing too hard or flossing a little too vigorously, persistent bleeding of the gums or gums that are red or swollen is not a good sign and should be assessed by one of our qualified dentists.
